Algeria and Benin have condemned a recent armed attack targeting Niger’s main international airport and a nearby military facility in the capital, Niamey, reaffirming their support for the Nigerien government and its people.
In separate statements, both countries denounced the assault and extended condolences to those affected by the violence. Algerian authorities described the attack as a threat to regional stability and reiterated their commitment to cooperation against terrorism across the Sahel region.
Benin also expressed solidarity with Niger, emphasizing the longstanding ties between the two neighboring nations and offering sympathy to the victims and their families.
According to Nigerien authorities, security forces repelled the attack after intense clashes around the airport area. Officials reported casualties among security personnel and civilians, while several attackers were killed or taken into custody.
The incident highlights the ongoing security challenges facing Niger as armed groups continue to target strategic locations across the country.
